How should we delegate responsibilities

Short Answer:

The key is to delegate, not abdicate, responsibilities.  This means creating a closed loop system like what a thermostat does in a heating system. It allows you to set a target – 70 degrees – and then it constantly measures the results and provides real time feedback to the heating system so it can adjust to keep you comfortable.  Setting targets for what needs to be accomplished; constantly measuring progress; and asking three questions of each person each day – at the heart of the Scaling Up Daily Huddle:

  • What’s your priority – making sure people are working on the right things
  • What’s your results – are they making progress in the right direction
  • What’s in the way of achieving your priorities and results – where are the constraints

Given the answers, corrective action can be taken to make sure everything is running smoothly and comfortably, like the heating system in your home.
